PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has emphasised the need for a dedicated forum to discuss issues related to water and canals, warning that promoting provincialism is detrimental to national unity.

Speaking to the media, the governor remarked that if Punjab did not require foreign assistance, it should redirect those funds to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He added that data from the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) should be utilised to assist flood victims in Punjab. “The matter of canals has been discussed before and should continue to be addressed through a proper forum,” he said.

Governor Kundi also opposed the withdrawal of security for Awami National Party (ANP) leader Aimal Wali Khan, stressing that political leaders face threats and must be provided adequate protection.

He noted that the National Finance Commission (NFC) awards are not distributed fairly, arguing that Punjab receives the largest share based on its size rather than equal consideration for all provinces.

“We must move the country forward. The agreement with Saudi Arabia presents a vital opportunity for development,” Kundi said.

Criticising the provincial government, he said it was inappropriate to transfer administrative powers of Edwards College from the governor to the chief minister. “They have already weakened universities and are now targeting the funds of Edwards College,” he remarked.

He further said that intelligence-based operations were ongoing in the province, contradicting the chief minister’s claim of being unaware of such activities. “The chief minister should come to the assembly and clarify his policy,” he added.
