RAWALAKOT: Several security personnel were seriously injured in an armed attack and violent assault carried out by members of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) in Rawalakot, Azad Kashmir.
Despite repeated claims by the group of maintaining peace in the region, the militants engaged in a series of violent acts, targeting law enforcement officers who were on duty to protect public safety and maintain law and order.
According to reports, the assailants opened fire and subjected multiple security personnel to brutal physical attacks, leaving them with serious injuries. This incident marks yet another episode in a series of violent actions by the banned committee, which has previously damaged government property and caused casualties among law enforcement officials.
Security experts say that the JAAC’s continued engagement in violent activities indicates that the group is pursuing an incendiary agenda rather than advocating for genuine public rights or concerns.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and assured that steps are being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice while maintaining peace in the affected areas.
FIRs against 177 JAAC members were restored after a violation of the agreement
Earlier, the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir decided to restore FIRs against 77 members of the Joint Awami Action Committee following the recent clashes of the organization with security forces and Police.
As a result of the talks with the Awami Action Committee, held a few months ago, FIRs against 177 people were withdrawn, and now they are being restored on an emergency basis. The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has issued a notification.
The government has announced that there will be no talks now, drop your weapons, and surrender to the law of the land. In addition to the newly registered FIRs, 177 FIRs withdrawn in all the previous talks have also been restored. Fresh FIRs have also been registered against members of the committee, and strict measures would be taken against those who were involved in anti-state activities.
Meanwhile, JAAC members were effectively controlled in Rawalakot, and armed cadres of the proscribed JAAC are still present in the areas surrounding Rawalakot. holding weapons and sticks, they tried to enter Rawalakot last night but were effectively pushed back by AJK Police and FC.
Overall, the situation is tense but in control, and the government has firmed its resolute resolve to deal with the menace of JAAC effectively. As a first measure, 117 withdrawn FIRs have been reinstated against JAAC members involved in violent disruptions, and other concessions extended in the talks with JAAC during October 2025 are being reviewed.
Fresh FIRs are being lodged against JAAC members being involved in the ongoing protests. More than 400 arrests have already been made by police and security forces, many of them youth who have declared that they were misled by JAAC leadership. Some JAAC leaders have also surrendered to LEAs, declaring that the current actions of JAAC are not what they endorse for their demands.
The situation caused by JAAC is creating severe shortages of essential supplies in AJK, have badly affected the local economy, especially due to the absence of tourists. There are increasing reports of looting as supplies are dropping.
Anti-Pakistan statements of JAAC leadership, especially of Sardar Amaan, have exposed their Indian sponsored agenda, and the latest situation vindicates the legal and moral standpoint of AJK government and the State. The AJK government and all stakeholders are on one page and informed that there is no space for talks, parents and elders must play their role in guiding their misguided youth in returning to their homes peacefully to restore normalcy.
