PESHAWAR: A sudden onset of severe windstorms and torrential rains, accompanied by heavy thunder aThe nd lightning, wreaked havoc across several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The severe weather caused widespread destruction in Mardan, Swat, Shangla, Abbottabad, Kohistan, and Buner, leaving three people dead and more than a dozen injured in various structural collapse incidents.

According to Bilal Ahmed Faizi, spokesperson for Rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a tragic incident occurred in the Londkhwar area of Mardan, where the roof of a house collapsed. The incident resulted in the immediate deaths of 60-year-old Shah Wazir and his wife, while their 18-year-old son, Siddiq, sustained serious injuries. Initial reports indicate numerous incidents of roofs collapsing or being blown away by the fierce winds across the district.

In a separate incident in Abbottabad, a resident of Kohat was killed when a large tree uprooted by the storm fell onto his motorcycle.The

Swat district was similarly hard-hit by severe mudslides and heavy downpours. Wall collapses and storm-related accidents in Haji Baba, Main Bazaar, Banar, and other localities left 12 people injured. Rescue personnel provided first aid before shifting the victims to nearby hospitals. The storm also caused extensive damage to several commercial buildings, shops, and vehicles in Swat, while fallen trees completely knocked out the local power grid.

In Shangla district, the storm caused severe destruction in the Sangrai Shinai area. A massive tree fell onto two parked motorcycles belonging to a local resident, Faisal Muhammad, destroying both vehicles. Furthermore, fallen trees blocked the main highways at Chakesar Shaw and Chakesar Chowk. A Rescue 1122 team in Shangla cleared the main blockage in the Bele Baba Matta Aghwan area of Alpuri Tehsil after chopping down the uprooted tree.

Meanwhile, Buner district experienced fierce thunderstorms and gale-force winds, which triggered a district-wide power outage. Local administration officials and rescue teams remain actively engaged in relief and clearing operations across all affected regions.
