PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over the suspension of gas supply to the CNG sector in the province.

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi wrote the letter to the Prime Minister on Monday over the suspension of gas supply to the CNG sector, demanding the restoration of gas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In his letter, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took the stand that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a major natural gas-producing province, so it should not be deprived of its constitutional right. He said that the province produces about 494 MMCFD of gas, while its consumption is only 120 MMCFD.
According to the letter, 36 to 40 MMCFD of gas required by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s CNG sector was transferred to the fertiliser sector, which is likely to cause unrest and law and order problems in the province.
The Chief Minister said that under the constitution, the province producing gas has the first right to use it, while the Peshawar High Court has also declared the closure of CNG stations unfair.
He warned that the CNG closure will affect the jobs of thousands of people, as the transport sector depends largely on CNG, so gas restoration is inevitable.
The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also requested the Prime Minister to convene a meeting of the Council of Common Interests.
