OpenAI has announced the introduction of personal finance tools for ChatGPT, which allows users to link their financial accounts and ask detailed money and budget questions to artificial intelligence (AI).
According to the company, more than 200 million (20 crore) users already ask finance-related questions to ChatGPT every month, which shows the growing public interest in AI tools for financial guidance.
OpenAI says the new GPT-5.5 model has a better ability to think and understand context, which is why it is able to give more effective answers to personal finance questions. To further improve the performance of this model, the company has also developed a special benchmark (standard) in collaboration with financial experts.
With this new finance feature, users will be able to ask questions like “I feel like I’ve been spending too much lately. Have my habits changed?” “Help me create a financial plan to buy a house in my area in the next 5 years.” The feature will analyze the data and spending patterns of the user’s linked accounts to provide personalized financial advice tailored to their needs.
After disconnecting the account, all synced data will be permanently deleted from ChatGPT within 30 days. In addition, users will be able to view and delete their financial memories directly from the Finance page.
The development reflects a broader trend of AI companies developing tools for sensitive areas such as finance, health and personal life. OpenAI and Anthropic have previously introduced health-related AI tools, while Perplexity recently launched a financial research product powered by its computer agent.
OpenAI has clarified that these personal finance tools are currently only available to ChatGPT Pro users on the web and iOS platforms. The company says it will further improve the feature in light of user feedback, after which it will be extended to Plus subscribers.
