ISLAMABAD: Ahead of the federal budget for 2026-27, government employees and pensioners may see a significant financial relief as the government considers increasing salaries and pensions.
Sources claimed that some proposals under consideration include a 7% increase in the salary for working government officials and employees and a 5% increase in pensions for retirees. It has been made clear by the officials of the Ministry of Finance that these proposals are under consideration and final decisions regarding these matters will be taken depending upon the financial situation of the country. Official announcements regarding this issue have not been made yet.
According to the latest figures provided by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, inflation has hit 10.9% in April 2026, which is much more than the projected range of 8-9% by the ministry. Inflation increased to 11.1% in urban areas, while it remained at 10.6% in rural areas against 7.3% last month.
With increasing prices of essential commodities, officials and pensioners in the public sector are expecting a hefty package in the next budget.
Govt announces monthly stipend of Rs 60,000 for graduates
Meanwhile, the government of Punjab has launched an internship scheme for veterinarians and para-veterinarians, providing them with stipends of Rs 60,000 per month and Rs 40,000 per month, respectively. The scheme was initiated by Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz with a budget allocation of Rs 600 million.
According to the details shared, a total of 1,000 internships will be offered this year, out of which 264 will be for the veterinary graduate and 371 internships for the para-veterinarian staff.
Moreover, the last date for application is now May 15, 2026, owing to which applicants can apply for the internship until that date. Applicants are requested to apply online via the website www.jobs.punjab.gov.pk
