The government of Pakistan has taken a major decision to establish ‘Strategic Petroleum Reserves’ to ensure the country’s energy security and uninterrupted supply of fuel in emergencies.

According to a private TV, preliminary work has been started on this important project, which aims to protect the country’s economy from any major crisis in view of price fluctuations in the global market and possible supply disruptions.

According to officials, under this project, such vast reserves of petrol and diesel will be prepared that will be sufficient to meet the overall needs of the country for at least 90 days.

Experts say that in the context of increasing tension in the sea lanes and global conditions, this step had become absolutely necessary so that there would be an alternative arrangement in case oil supplies were affected.

Consideration is being given to raising financial resources for the completion of the project, for which a proposal for a possible change in the petroleum levy is also under consideration so that a significant amount can be raised on an annual basis.

According to initial estimates, billions of rupees are expected to be raised in this regard, which will not only strengthen the storage system but also move the country’s energy sector towards stability as a whole.

These strategic reserves will prove to be a strong shield against possible future crises and will not allow the country to grind to a halt even if the global supply line is affected.
