PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has unveiled its Hybrid Wheat Procurement Policy for 2026, marking a significant shift by involving the private sector in wheat purchasing for the first time.

According to the official document, the government intends to keep the wheat stock of 530,000 metric tons as its strategic reserve, and some part of the wheat purchasing will be done via private aggregators.

As per the Hybrid Wheat Procurement Policy of 2026, two-thirds of the wheat will be purchased by the government, whereas one-third will be purchased from the private aggregators. The support price of the wheat has been determined as 3,500 Pakistani Rupees per 40 kg.

Furthermore, the total budget allocated for public purchase of the wheat has been kept 32 billion rupees, while 16 billion rupees will be spent on procurement from the private sector. The private aggregators will get up to 70% markup support, and the selection process of such aggregators will be done via a transparent tendering process.

Moreover, all the payments under this policy would be done through banking routes, and there would be a digital monitoring system for tracking the wheat stocks.
