ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has achieved a major milestone in its space programme with the successful launch of its indigenous electro-optical satellite, EO-3, by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).

The satellite was launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, underscoring ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and China in the field of space technology.

EO-3 is designed to enhance Pakistan’s Earth observation capabilities, providing high-quality imaging for a wide range of applications. In addition to its core imaging mission, the satellite is equipped with advanced experimental payloads aimed at validating next-generation technologies.

These include a Multi-Geometry Imaging Module to improve imaging accuracy, an advanced energy storage system, and an onboard AI-powered data processing unit that enables real-time analysis and intelligent decision-making.

The integration of EO-3 into Pakistan’s existing Earth observation satellite fleet is expected to significantly improve data continuity, imaging reliability, and analytical precision.

These advancements will support various socio-economic sectors, including agriculture, urban planning, disaster management, and environmental monitoring.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated SUPARCO’s scientists and engineers on the successful launch, reaffirming the government’s commitment to advancing the country’s space programme. He also expressed appreciation for China’s continued support and collaboration in space initiatives.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister likewise commended SUPARCO’s technical expertise and dedication, describing the achievement as a reflection of Pakistan’s growing scientific capabilities.

He reiterated the government’s resolve to further strengthen Pakistan’s presence in the global space sector.

The successful deployment of EO-3 marks another step forward in Pakistan’s efforts to develop indigenous space technologies and expand its role in Earth observation and space research.
