Renowned journalist Najam Sethi discussed Pakistan’s important role in the negotiations between Iran and the US on an Indian TV show.
While participating in the News Today, India Today show, Najam Sethi said, while answering questions, that Pakistan has established itself as an important mediator on the global stage.
During the show, when host Rajdeep Sardesai asked who is leading these negotiations, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif or Field Marshal Asim Munir? Najam Sethi clarified that at present in Pakistan, the civilian leadership (Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister) and the military establishment (headed by Field Marshal Asim Munir) are completely on the same page.
He said that when the Prime Minister was in Turkey, and the Deputy Prime Minister was in Saudi Arabia, the Army Chief was on a visit to Iran, which is proof that all the institutions are working together, and this is a joint platform.
Rajdeep Sardesai asked whether Pakistan hopes to get financial assistance from these talks, especially in terms of oil, as a large part of it comes through the narrow Strait of Hormuz.
Responding to this question, Najam Sethi said that whether the talks are successful or not, Pakistan has established itself as an important mediator. According to him, all the major world leaders are in touch with the Pakistani leadership and are encouraging it to continue this role.
Meanwhile, Sardesai also raised India’s concerns about Pakistan, especially regarding its sponsorship of terrorism. Najam Sethi said that Pakistan no longer exports terrorism, and the world has recognised this fact.
When Sardesai mentioned the terrorists sheltering in Pakistan in the past, Najam Sethi said that these are things of the past, and the current government is focusing on Pakistan. He also said that Pakistan has recognised its strategic position and its importance in global relations.
Rajdeep Sardesai said that Pakistan is further increasing its importance on the global stage, and it is hoped that the outcome of these talks will be successful so that war in West Asia can end. Najam Sethi said that the world wishes that these talks will be successful so that peace can be established in the region.
