PESHAWAR (Qaisar Bukhari): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has arrested a senior Grade 19 officer of the health department on charges of extensive financial corruption and misuse of authority.

According to ACE officials, Dr Haleem-ur-Rehman, the former Medical Superintendent of the Type D Hospital in Karak, was taken into custody after a local court rejected his plea for an extension of interim bail. According to anti-corruption officials, the arrest follows a detailed inquiry into the hospital’s financial management during the officer’s tenure.

Sources within the department revealed that the accused is alleged to have caused a loss of hundreds of thousands of rupees to the national exchequer between July 2023 and May 2024. Investigators further disclosed that key official records related to the period in question have vanished, suggesting a deliberate attempt to conceal the trail of embezzlement. Following the court’s decision to deny bail, ACE personnel moved to apprehend the senior official to proceed with further interrogation and the recovery of the missing documents.
