KP Bar Council boycotted court proceedings on Monday over the granting of privileges to the SHO of Charsadda, named in the lawyer murder case.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council said that lawyers from across the province, including the Peshawar High Court, are not appearing in courts, and said that the judiciary and administration have given special privileges to the Station House Office, Charsadda, which is allegedly involved in the lawyer’s murder.

The official said that giving special privileges to the SHO named in the lawyer murder case is regrettable and will open new avenues for other criminals. The KP Bar Council said in a statement that the judiciary and administration should treat all the accused equally.

Earlier, the Charsadda District Bar Association had also expressed regret over the killing of Mian Asim Shah by the SHO of City Police Station, Charsadda. The meeting expressed concern over the presence of such elements in the law enforcement agencies and termed the incident extremely worrying. The meeting stressed the need to end police brutality in Charsadda and stressed the need to ensure public safety.

It may be recalled here that a jirga was going on between two rival parties within the limits of the city police station when the police intervened, during which an exchange of fire took place. Muhammad Asim, who is the son of the JI district leader and a lawyer by profession, died on the spot, while two policemen, identified as Constables Ilyas and Qasim, died.

After the incident, Jamaat-e-Islami workers and their families protested by placing the body at Farooq Azam Chowk. The demonstration was called off after negotiations between the protesters and the district administration led by the Deputy Commissioner.
