PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is taking steps to implement a facial recognition-based attendance system to reduce teacher absenteeism and poor performance in government schools. There is a growing issue with teachers either remaining absent or leaving school shortly after marking their attendance, which hurts the quality of education.
To tackle this problem, officials have decided to adopt modern facial recognition technology that will automatically record teachers’ attendance. This system is expected to eliminate issues such as fraudulent attendance records and premature leave. The implementation of this technology will be rolled out in government schools across the province in phases, with the project set to commence in June.
Additionally, monitoring teams within educational institutions have become more proactive in identifying teachers who are absent or provide insufficient teaching hours in their reports.
