KARACHI: Peshawar Zalmi defeated Hyderabad Kings by 4 wickets and secured a thrilling victory on the last ball of the match in HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11.
The match was played at National Stadium Karachi. Peshawar Zalmi win the toss and decided to bowl first. While batting first Hyderabad Kings scored a total of 145 runs before being bowled out. The standout performers for Hyderabad were Kushaal Perera, who scored 58 runs, and Marnus Labuschagne, who contributed 27 runs to the team’s total.
Peshawar Zalmi’s bowling attack was led by Sufyan Maqeem and Iftikhar Ahmed, both of whom claimed four wickets each, effectively dismantling the Hyderabad batting order.
Chasing a modest target of 146 runs, Peshawar Zalmi reached the required total in the final over, losing 6 wickets in the process. Babar Azam played a crucial role in the chase, scoring 46 runs, while Kushaal Mendis contributed 27 and Bresol added 25 runs, guiding the team to victory.
For Hyderabad, Saeem Ayub’s bowling effort stood out as he picked up 2 wickets for just 19 runs, but his efforts weren’t enough to turn the tide for his team.
Before the match, the CEO of the Pakistan Super League, Salman Nasir, symbolically released a dove for peace during the toss. Babar Azam, Marnus Labuschagne, and match referee Roshan Mahnama also attended the event. The symbolic gesture was in honour of Pakistan’s role in facilitating peace talks between Iran and the United States.
PSL 11: Peshawar Zalmi set world record with historic chase
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi created a unique world record in Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) by successfully chasing the highest-ever target without any individual half-century.
Zalmi achieved the milestone while chasing a daunting 215-run target against Rawalpindi Raiders, scoring 218 runs without any batter reaching the 50-run mark.
The feat surpasses the previous record set in Major League Cricket, where a team had chased 214 runs without a half-century.
Peshawar Zalmi established a global record which they used to create a new domestic record for Pakistan cricket with their team total which they achieved without any player reaching fifty runs.
The previous record for most runs scored without a half-century remained with Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators who both achieved 209 runs.
Zalmi’s historic victory shows his team batting strength because multiple players contributed to the win.
