KHYBER: Security forces have initiated an operation against the Fitna al-Khawarij in the village of Melwad, located in a suburb of Bara in the Khyber district. Heavy gunfire is occurring from both sides.
According to sources, the operation began after security forces received confirmed information about the presence of Khawarij militants in the area. There are reports of intense clashes during the operation, and the Khawarij have reportedly deployed quadcopters (drones) in response to the situation.
Security sources indicate that there are reports of several Khawarij casualties, although official confirmation is still pending. Residents have also reported seeing suspicious drones in the sky.
A group of Khawarij militants has taken refuge among the civilian population and is holding two locals hostage in a house. Given this situation, security forces are proceeding with caution to avoid harming civilians.
Sources within the security forces state that Fitna al-Khawarij has previously targeted civilians during times of pressure, and the use of drones has been part of their longstanding strategy. The area has been completely surrounded, and the operation is still ongoing as of the latest reports.
