BERLIN: Germany has confirmed the deportation of an Afghan national who had committed armed robbery and other serious crimes.
According to the German Ministry of the Interior, the deportation was imperative for the safety of the public and the enforcement of the law. The ministry went on to say that foreign residents involved in violent activities, armed robbery, drug trafficking, or organized crime have no right to seek asylum or continue living in Germany.
Afghan media reported that since 2018, over 220 Afghan refugees have been sent back from Germany for different reasons. Last year, 28 Afghan nationals were deported, and so far this year, the number has reached 81.
The issue is not just a Germany problem. Some Afghan refugees who entered Europe after the Taliban takeover have been found to engage in criminal activities. Such cases have also been reported in the US, Canada, and Australia which makes it difficult for these countries to grant asylum to Afghan nationals.
