NAPIER: New Zealand fast bowler Brett Randell made history by claiming five wickets within five balls during a first-class cricket match that set a new domestic cricket record.

This incredible performance was recorded during the Plunket Shield cricket match against Northern Districts played in Napier.

Randell produced his best performance to date by claiming seven wickets while conceding only twenty-five runs to Central Districts, which earned them a resounding win. His extraordinary bowling performance resulted in him taking five wickets by dismissing five batters during consecutive delivery of his fifth ball which only professional T20 tournaments have ever seen before this moment with Ireland’s Curtis Campher achieving the same record in a domestic match.

Randell’s exceptional performance enabled Central Districts to restrict Northern Districts to a total of 82 runs which followed their own score of 373 runs. His bowling performance included six wicket dismissals through eight deliveries and seven wicket dismissals through twelve deliveries which demonstrated his remarkable bowling capabilities.

Randell’s outstanding bowling performance saw the dismissal of New Zealand opener Jeet Raval and fast bowler Christian Clark. His record-breaking five consecutive wickets left fans and players amazed as they acknowledged his accuracy and consistency in the game.

Curtis Campher set the record for achieving five wickets within five balls in the T20 format before Randell’s record in the first-class game.

The performance functioned as a personal achievement for Randell while it demonstrated the power of New Zealand’s domestic cricket system which Central Districts currently showcase through their championship pursuit that depends on their exceptional bowling abilities.
