KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to table a no-confidence motion against Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq.
The decision was made during a meeting of the PPP AJK parliamentary party, chaired by Faryal Talpur in Karachi. Party members agreed to field their own candidate for the prime minister’s slot by forming an alliance with lawmakers from other political parties. Sardar Yaqoob has been nominated as the PPP’s candidate for the position.
Sources said the final decision would be taken jointly by the central leadership of the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). The meeting was attended by members of the PPP’s parliamentary group in AJK.
It is noteworthy that both the PPP and PML-N announced their withdrawal from the coalition government in AJK earlier this week. The decision came during a joint meeting of the PPP’s parliamentary party and core committee, where members unanimously passed a resolution to leave the ruling alliance.
Meanwhile, PML-N leader Shah Ghulam Qadir stated that his party would prefer to sit in the opposition rather than continue with the current government, adding that the final decision would rest with the party’s central leadership.
