KHAR: As many as 34 police personnel in Bajaur have been suspended because of suspected connections with drug traders. An inquiry into the matter that uncovered the officers’ participation in bribery and keeping dirty ties with drug traffickers was the basis of the decision made.

DPO Bajaur, in a press release, verified the suspensions and added that the officers had been problematized for a long time. “The officers had been taking money from the dealers and having illegal dealings with them,” the DPO said.

This deed is not a new thing for the region. Six police officers, also, were suspended in the previous month for similar offenses connected with trafficking narcotics.

The DPO assured that there would be no police officer or facilitator associated with drug dealers left unpunished. “Those who help drug traffickers in any way will receive no mercy,” he declared with conviction.

In a related matter, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have publicly raised their risk allowance and martyr packages as part of putting in force their efforts to boost the spirits of the men in the department.

The officers’ suspensions highlight the fact that law enforcement is still actively engaged in the battle against corruption in the police force and dealing with the drug trafficking problem that is on the rise in the area.
