GOA, India: At least 23 people were killed after a fire broke out in a nightclub in the Indian state of Goa, according to international media reports.
The fire was caused by a cylinder blast inside the nightclub situated in Arpora district. The casualties comprise tourists along with staff members who were, at the location when the event occurred.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has commanded an inquiry instructing authorities to verify if fire safety measures and construction rules were adhered to. He promised measures, against anyone deemed negligent.
At the moment, the rescue mission has commenced, with the emergency squads engaged in clearing the site and searching for victims or the deceased.
