Transporters charging excessive fares from passengers on inter-district routes causing scuffle and problem at different bus station.
The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and the district administration are active against those who take advantage of the rush of passengers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr after holidays.
The provincial government has issued instructions to take strict action against transporters charging arbitrary fares in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Transport authorities have raided bus stands, especially on complaints from passengers going from Peshawar to Dera Ismail Khan, Swat, and Mardan.
The Secretary Regional Transport Authority in DI Khan and Peshawar visited various stands and took action against vehicles not displaying fare lists.
Several vehicles were fined heavily for charging excessive fares and several vehicles were impounded at police stations.
Passengers present at the spot during checking were refunded the excess amount taken from the transporters.
The authorities have made it clear that exploitation of passengers will not be tolerated during the Eid rush. All transporters have been directed to paste the official fare note in a prominent place inside the vehicles.
If any transporter asks for excessive fares, immediately file a complaint with the district administration or helpline.
Passengers are advised to check the official rates before travelling and contact the police inspectors at the stations in case of any complaint.
