US President Donald Trump made a sensational revelation during a cabinet meeting at the White House, saying that Iran has allowed 10 oil-laden ships to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz as a “goodwill gift” to prove its seriousness in the negotiations.
Surprisingly, all these ships were flying Pakistani flags, which is a sign that Pakistan has emerged as the most important mediator between the US and Iran at this time. “The ‘gift’ I mentioned yesterday was 10 oil tankers with Pakistani flags on them. When these ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz, I was convinced that we were talking in the right direction through the right people (Pakistan). We were just trying to check whether Iran was really serious or not. And then they showed us two more ships.”
According to political observers, the use of Pakistani flags on these ships is evidence that both Tehran and Washington have accepted Islamabad as a “neutral zone”. US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff has also confirmed that the US 15-point peace plan was conveyed to Tehran through the Pakistani government.
These 10 oil tankers are said to be worth billions of dollars. President Trump has called it a positive signal for global energy prices. Experts say that if Pakistan’s mediation is successful, it will not only dispel the clouds of war in the region but will also immensely increase Pakistan’s global prestige and economic reputation.
